Clear Problems. Some malfunctions can be cleared by shutting the printer off, rebooting the computer and turning the printer back on. Print Spooling (or Pooling) is turned off by default and should be left off.

Messages on Receipts. Any string of characters (up to 50) entered in the Email and Website fields in Program Setup (General tab) will appear on 3" sales receipts. For example: 'All Sales Final'.
Logo on Receipts. A 250 x 250 pixel image of a logo can be printed on receipts. Go to Start > All Programs > THERMAL PRINTER > WinLogoMaker and refer to the printer manual for instructions.

Is a Dedicated Receipt Printer Necessary?
Patrons of consignment stores know they are purchasing used merchandise. They have the opportunity to inspect items before purchase and they understand that items are being sold 'as is'. They typically accept (if not expect) a 'no-return policy' so in many cases, it is not necessary to print a receipt. Moreover, many customers are satisfied with the credit-card transaction receipt. Of course hand-written receipts would also be acceptable for purchases with few items.
Every edition of BCSS has a built-in receipt that can be printed in the Excel Invoice format with any laser-style printer on a full sheet of paper, which may be sufficient for an occasional receipt, making a costly thermal receipt printer ($284) unnecessary.
In Diamond and Virtual Specials the thermal LABEL printer can be substituted for the thermal RECEIPT printer for $100 more, so money is being invested in a printer that will be used more frequently. The labels will be cheaper (about 1c each). They will be easier to produce and they will look more attractive. (Deluxe does support a thermal RECEIPT printer but not a thermal LABEL printer.)
To substitute the LABEL printer for the RECEIPT printer on the order page, place a 1 in the box named 'Special/Label Printer'.
Printer Support
Before using the printer with BCSS, it must be able to successfully print a self-test receipt. Please refer to the printer's manual for setup, configuration and use. (The manual may be viewed online at http://www.pos-x.com/downloads/EVO-RP1_MANUAL.pdf.) POS-X support may be reached at http://www.pos-x.com/request.aspx and 800-790-8657 .
BCSS printer support begins after the printer is working properly. (See instructions below.)
Installation Notes:
Installation Procedures:
See Troubleshooting if the test print failed.
Setting up the Receipt Printer in BCSS
BCSS needs to know which printer will be used for printing receipts. The printer can be a standard laser-style printer (for full-page receipts) or a receipt printer (for 3" roll-paper receipts).

Printer Self Test
To test print a receipt:
If the self-test fails, check all the basics: Printer on? Paper fed correctly? Paper jam? Bad cord? At this point BCSS is not involved. Please call POS-X support at 800-790-8657 or complete a service request at http://www.pos-x.com/request.aspx.
Troubleshooting the EVO Thermal Receipt Printer
If the problem persists:
Problem: The printer was working. Now it isn't. Receipts print when the printer is turned off and back on.
Cause: Windows may be confused about what to do with print jobs: Print them right away or print them later.
Solution:
If there is a problem call POS-X support at 800-790-8657 or complete a service request at http://www.pos-x.com/request.aspx.
Power Management
If there's continued failure, the printer could be defective but before the delay of returning it or having it shipped for warranty repair, have a local technician test the printer. Often minor things are overlooked like printer connection, port settings, paper loading and jams, spooled print jobs and correct configuration. If a functional printer is returned for replacement or warranty, the hardware distributor will require that you cover all costs (which can be over $100).
