A cash register (also called a 'till') is different from a cash drawer. A cash register has a cash drawer, but a cash drawer is not a cash register.
A cash register records sales and print receipts for customers. All cash registers have a drawer for holding various forms of payment like cash, checks, etc. A cash register provides a printout at the end of the day for balancing its cash drawer.
A cash drawer can be part of a cash register or it can be a separate peripheral device used in conjunction with a receipt printer which opens the cash drawer when a receipt is printed.
A receipt printer prints two copies of a receipt (on roll paper) showing the details of the sale: date, items, quantity, price, subtotal, tax, total amount. One copy of the receipt is for the customer. The other is for the store owner.
BCSS Diamond Edition uses a computer, cash drawer and receipt printer in place of a cash register. These items may be purchased separately or with the purchase of the Diamond edition.
