Managing Inventory Categories
Right-click and select Print to print any page.

Inventory categories (like beds, baby clothes, etc.) must be set up before inventory can be entered.

Adding Categories

In BCSS, on the Main Menu,

Select 'Inventory' then Categories. At the bottom of the Categories window, enter a category name in 'Edit an old category or enter a new one here'.

Select 'Create New Category' at the top. The new category is added. Enter as many categories as desired then select 'Close Window'. Data will be saved.

Editing and Deleting Categories

To edit a category, in the Categories window, select the category from the list, make changes in the input box at the bottom of the window and select 'Save Edited Category'. Changes are saved. To delete a category, select the category in the list and select 'Delete the Highlighted Category'. The category is deleted.

Default Category

To avoid repetitious reentry of a category name, the Default Category name is auto-entered on the New-Item Entry Screen and on the Batch-New-Item Entry Screen. The category can be changed on those screens for any item.

Select a default category below. (Click the 'down arrow' to the right of 'Default Category' to view a list of options. If no options are listed, see 'Adding Categories' above.) The default category can be 'None'.

Tax-Free Categories

Sales tax will not apply to items sold in a category marked 'Tax Free'. A single tax-free item can be made taxable on an invoice however.
