Tips for Selling Consignment Clothes

All consignment clothes of course should be in 'like new' condition with all buttons and zippers in place and completely functional.

Clothes for consignment must be clean (freshly washed or dry cleaned) and pressed.

Consignment clothing must be free of any damage including stains, tears, visible repairs, loose threads, etc.

Shirts, slacks, blouses and jackets should be on hangers and the hangers should be appropriate for the type of clothing, like padded hangers for sensitive materials.

Pullovers and knits should be neatly folded in the style commonly seen in clothing department stores.

Undergarments are not usually offered for resale. Understandably buyers aren't interested in purchasing and wearing others underwear.

Tips for Buying Consignment Clothes

Many clothing consignment stores mark down the prices of items as the items remain unsold. A typical discount schedule is a percentage markdown every 30 days with the item being returned to the consignor, transferred to store ownership, donated to charity or destroyed. Some stores even have a 'grab bag' for unsold items that are given away.

Realize that there are other shoppers visiting the store with the same objective as yours and perhaps with the same strategies. It never hurts to keep an open line of communication with the store owner and employees who are eager to develop long-term loyalty by performing 'little favors' like setting an item aside for you on or before the next discount date. (Consignment clothing stores want to move merchandise as much as you want a good bargain.)
