Cash Drawer/Receipt Printer
A cash register is different from a cash drawer. BCSS support a cash drawer.
A cash register records sales, and provides a printout at the end of the day
for balancing the cash drawer. All cash registers have a cash drawer.
A cash drawer is a place to put money. A cash drawer can be used without a cash register. BCSS uses your computer and receipt printer in place of a cash register.
Cash drawers coordinate with receipt printers. A receipt printer prints two copies of a receipt (from roll paper) showing the details of the sale/purchase: date, items, quantity, price, subtotal, tax, total amount. One copy of the receipt is for the customer. The other is for the store owner.
The Diamond edition of BCSS is the only BCSS edition which supports a cash drawer and receipt printer.
Networking
Networking allows having several POS computers on the sales floor (even in different stores) and a computer in the back office all tied into the same database. The back office can see what is happening on the floor in real time and the clerks have access to up to the minute inventory and account balance status.
All stations will use the same set of database files. Each copy of BCSS will need to be told where to find the central database. The central database can be any of the BCSS installations or it can be in a separate folder wherever desired. If the network administrator elects to use a client/server network configuration rather than peer-to-peer, the database will be by itself on the server and all copies of BCSS will connect to it there.
The Diamond edition price of $595 includes the networking of two computers. Additional stations may be networked at $100 each.
