Thermal printers are used to print barcode labels. They print either 2" or 4" labels (or two labels across using the 4" printer). The printer and labels aren't cheap but the cost per label is less in the long run if thousands of labels are needed.
Direct thermal printers produce lower-cost labels than thermal transfer printers because no ribbon is required. Direct thermal printers use a thermal printhead that applies heat to a chemically-treated paper, creating lines, text and graphics. The disadvantages are that direct thermal labels fade with age and will turn black if exposed to heat or strong sunlight, and the printhead doesn't last as long.
Outdated thermal labels (used by Consignpro & Liberty) use 'notches' to advance labels through the printer. There are only 500 sets of two tags on these older 2-across rolls and users are forced to print a minimum of 2 tags each time, creating some waste of labels.
The new Horizontal Tags have 1500-2000 labels on a roll and are cost and time efficient. They have a black line across the back which forces the printer to print before moving forward, so there is no waste.
Best Consignment Shop Software is specifically configured to use the new Horizontal Tags with the Zebra 2844 Thermal Printer (4"). Liberty sells this printer for $417 (including shipping). We've seen the same printer (refurbished) on eBay for $139 or if you prefer new, $345 with free shipping from us.
Labels are available from Tags By Markat CC, 888-947-7734 markatcc@att.net.
