The 'Software Rental Plan'
The BCSS Purchase Plan: Pay once for software. You own it. There are no ongoing 'usage fees'. 'Usual and Customary' - Expect to pay $400 TO $600 and resell it for $200 TO $300, making your total net cost just $200 TO $300.
The 'Other Guys' Rental Plan: Make a huge down payment and pay every year to only use the software. You don't own it and you can't resell it. Expect to pay in excess of $10,000 over time - for similar software!
Now, who on earth would rent software for $10,000 when they can buy software for $300 net? Only those who buy the sales pitch that paying (a lot) more buys more.
Consignment stores succeed in part because management makes wise decisions about consignment software and hardware.
There is so much to do, so many details. Paying attention to this decision now will avoid paying needlessly for consignment software now and later.
