BCSS is compatible with Windows Vista but the average computer user has difficulty understanding Vista and using it successfully.

About Windows Vista

BCSS is compatible with Vista and Windows 7.

User Account Control (UAC) in Vista and Win7 was intended to provide security on computers used by more than one person. Unfortunately it's a radical change from the simplicity of installing software on XP machines. UAC is complex, confusing and very annoying.

If you are the only person using the computer, or trust others who are using it, there is nothing to protect against. UAC can be disabled in Control Panel, User Accounts. (Click Start, Help, search for 'Administrator' to learn more.)

If you have employees, BCSS Diamond or Virtual will provide the means to block them from accessing information you don't wish for them to access in BCSS.

About Windows Vista/Win7

To install software on a Vista or Win7 machine you must be logged into Windows as 'Administrator'.

When a software installation file is executed, UAC should prompt you to run the installation as Administrator. If you don't see the 'consent prompt' then right click on the installation file and choose 'Run as Administrator'.

Glossary:

The Administrator is a person or group of people who have complete and unrestricted access to create, delete and modify files, folders and settings on a computer.

An Administrator Account is used to make system-wide changes to the computer such as creating or deleting user accounts, creating passwords for other users, and installing software.

Windows 7 and Vista include a feature called User Access Control, which prompts for the administrator account name and password before actions requiring administrative rights when logged into a less-privileged account. User Access Control is enabled by default and can be turned off in Control Panel > User Accounts.
